The LLSBA sponsored a Card Grading event at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival (WSWF) in 2024. The festival’s website is: wisconsinsheepandwoolfestival.com if you are ever in the area!

What Is A Card Grading?

In a card grading, each animal is judged against the breed standard and evaluated as one of the following:

Blue Card = Excellent example of the breed
Red Card = Good example of the breed
Yellow Card = Acceptable example of the breed
White Card = Unacceptable

A card grading will help you visualize the breed standard and will teach you how to evaluate your own animals and improve the breed.

Our card grading at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival was a huge success! If you would like to see the videos, please click on any of the buttons below.

We also had wonderful presentations at the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool. Elaine Shirley, the Board President, spoke on behalf of the Board, and our guest speaker was Brenton Heazlewood. Mr. Heazlewood, who is from Australia, joined us to judge the Card Grading. We were very honored to have a long-time Leicester breeder! Please click on the buttons below to watch the presentations.

The three judges for the card grading event in Wisconsin brought very different backgrounds to the show. Zane Bone is a professional wool and meat judge in the USA. Joan Henry has raised Leicester Longwool sheep in the US for decades. And Brenton Heazlewood raises Leicester Longwool in Tanzania, Australia. Each were interviewed at the show.
